A Carson City family, traveling home from Burney on the evening of July 4th, all received injuries after the driver of the 2002 Chevy Cavalier reportedly swerved to avoid a deer on Highway 395 near Wran Road, then spun out of control, overturning and coming to rest on the shoulder of the highway.
According to details from the California Highway Patrol the Ebsen family, father Christopher Ebsen and three children, age 11, 13 and 15, were traveling southbound when the deer darted into their path.
Ebsen reportedly swerved to avoid the deer, at which time he lost control of the vehicle, spinning out of control across the northbound lane, and onto the northbound shoulder, where the vehicle overturned.
The youngest of the Ebsen children, according to CHP, was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision and was ejected out of the vehicle. The 11-year old sustained major injuries.
The other two Ebsen children remained in the vehicle with their father, sustaining minor injuries.
The 11-year old was flown by Mountain Life Flight to Renown Hospital in Reno, while the other three family members were taken there by ambulance.
All parties are expected to make a full recovery.
Their vehicle was towed from the scene by Susanville Towing.
